need help building lean muscle?
I'm a 6'1, 148 pound male and I want to gain some muscle weight, mostly lean muscle and not bulky. I lost about 15 pounds of weight in the past 4 months and just want to gain some lean muscle. I was at the beach the other day and people say I was lookin a little boney or thin compared to how I used to be so I would rather put on some muscle rather than fat. I have a gym membership and bike for 25 minutes 3 days a week, and gonna be doing soccer in a month or so which will put the activity level up there and I intake around 1500-1600 calories and gonna bumb it up to 1800 calories. I need help just building muscle and want to start with a resistance band which I could use a ton at home and have a 25 lb barbell so if you can help me out that'd be great. Thanks
My advice would be similar to that of Conner's.
I don't know what age you are but it seems you are taking the hard approach to achieving your goals. If you are physically active you are not taking in enough calories. You are very thin at 148 pounds 6'1". If you are going to a gym your time should be used on weight training not biking if you are trying to gain muscle. (Biking, however, is good for your aerobic endurance when you are playing soccer.) A 25 pound barbell is not enough to be helpful. I assume you are making a mistake describing its total weight. A resistance band won't do much for you either. I don't think you need to be concerned about becoming 'bulky', that doesn't happen accidentally. The 15 pounds of weight you lost may have helped you gain lean muscle. You were more likely to be able to lift heavier weights when your overall body weight was 163 than you are at 148. Too much of your weight loss likely came from muscle loss. Muscle needs good nutrition to build on.
Protein powder, protein bars should help you some. You seem to still be very young, although tall, so there is not anything else in terms of a supplement that I can think of that I would recommend you take at your age. If you are in a growth spurt you may need to adjust your exercise and meal plan to keep up with the spurt. Protein bars can be expensive and protein powder can cause bad stomach aches for some people, so start it gradually. A gym trainer or even school coach may have good advice for you as well.
I hate to say it but your numbers in your post aren't adding up to me.
