Isn't it refreshing that there were no instances of doping at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games?
In just about every Olympics, Summer or Winter, in the last 25 years or so, someone has always been caught doping in order to gain an unfair competitive advantage. These Olympics finished clean. Maybe people are finally realizing that it hurts their body to use these illegal drugs and blood doping. Or maybe they've finally realized they'll eventually get caught.
At the end of the day, this means very little as to the honesty of the athletes or their potential illegal drug use. Take Marion Jones as an example, she NEVER tested positive for a drugs test despite being tested multiple times over several years when she was using performance enhancing drugs. The only reason they discovered she had been cheating was because of tax statements linked to a major sport drug manufacturing company and she confessed.
In the end, manufacturers of drugs and athletes who use them have so much more to gain in terms of money, sponsorship, "prestige" (if you can call cheating to win prestigious) and more commercial reasons than the national and international sport organizations that test for them. For this reason, there will always be more funding for the creation of new drugs that can not be detected as yet rather than for new, improved and stringent methods and ability to test for such drugs. It is likely that there would have been many, many cheats at the Olympics in Vancouver, as there were in Beijing and many other global events such as the Tour De France, and the vast majority will never be caught.
