Looking for a "medium duty" chipper shredder for branches and saplings?
I have a VERY large yard (like 40 acres) and it's mostly overgrown with scrubby trees and brush. Most of it is small - like 1-3" in diameter. Though I'm harvesting what I can for firewood from the areas I want to clear, I have a LOT of brush and pruned branches to dispose of and I'd rather turn them into wood chips than burn them.
I'm looking for a "medium duty" chipper/shredder - one larger than the home handyman ones powered by a lawn mower engine - but I don't need one of those monsters the powerline companies use. I can't seem to find anything in between - seems they're either too small, or WAY too big.
I currently have an older Toro one with a 3-1/2HP vertical shaft engine. It does a fair job of shredding leaves and garden waste, but isn't up to handling branches much over 3/4". It also requires constant tending/feeding and that can get a little dangerous if a branch kicks back. Something "self-feeding" would be a blessing.
Any suggestions!?
