DDR for the windows XP Graphics Card upgrade (not a dance dance revolution) question?

alright usually getting answers is much easier but this one is probably the hardest for me lately. I have a Windows XP Home Edition SP3 desktop 2.66GHz with 1GB of RAM.

I can not find out if my computer uses DDR, DDR2, or DDR3, it doesn't show up when you right click my computer -> properties.
But since i had to install my 1 GB of RAM the hard way (finding out if it takes DDR, DDR2, or DDR3), i found out my computer takes DDR RAM, so i'm guessing my computer is DDR, since the RAM stick says DDR.

As for my question, if i were to upgrade and get a new graphics card, would it have to be DDR aswell? Also is DDR the same thing as DDR1?

The type of RAM on the graphics card and the type of RAM used on the motherboard do not have to be the same. The graphics card is made to use the GDDR2, GDDR3 or GDDR5 that is built into it, regardless of whether the motherboard uses DDR, DDR2 or DDR3. The different versions of DDR are different. DDR1 has a different number of pins and physical configuration from DDR2 and DDR. It can't even be inserted into a motherboard that uses DDR2 or DDR3. DDR and DDR1 are the same thing, the 1 is normally left off of the name.

Here is the link to Crucial's system scanner. Download and run it and it will tell you what kind of RAM (DDR PC133, DDR2 PC6400, etc...) your motherboard takes, as well as the maximum amount of RAM it can use. The speed of the RAM is also important. Each series of RAM (DDR1, DDR2, etc...) comes in different speeds. Obviously the faster RAM is better, and usually more expensive than the slower version. Using the fastest memory, at the max amount that your motherboard and operating system will allow, gives better performance.

We appreciate you looking at our Revolution Xp information.
