How to solve Heat of Fusion question?
I have no idea how to solve this problem. Suppose that heat was added to a 21.8 gram sample of solid zinc at the rate of 9.84J/s. After the temperature reached the normal melting point of zinc, 420 degrees C, it remained constant for 3.60 minutes. Calculate the change in heat of fusion at 420 degrees C, in J /mol, for zinc.
You're given the rate in J/s, and the time. So J/s * s => J. You now know the total energy placed into the sample during the time the temperature was constant.
You're given the material (zinc) and the mass. You can go find the molecular weight of zinc. Mass (g) divided by molecular weight (g/mol) yields the moles of substance.
Now you can directly calculate heat of fusion (J/mol) by dividing. Keep track of all your units.
