Barbell squats vs. machine squats?
just wondering how much tougher a free weight squat is compared to squats on a machine the one with the pads that go over ur shoulders and leave lots of marks on ur shoulders). i heard it was pretty similar but i'm wondering how much of a difference there is
There's big difference. If you're starting, start with machine so you can get your body position correctly. Form is everything or injury will rape you.
I use to do Machine all the time and then switched to the free weights with the Barbells because I keep hearing about the difference. It works out much more body parts because you're actually controlling the weight and balance which is harder.
Barbell is the way to go. Start lighttttt.
