Will i build stamina keeping my heart rate at 180-190 for 50-60mins?
Im 18 and currently training for the Royal Marines i like to push myself and try to get better, will keeping my heart rate higher increase my stamina more than doing 60min with 160 hear rate?
Stamina or endurance you want your HR below 70% for maximum since your training the body to run aerobically or with oxygen. Your training more for 10K or 5K pace which is more for anaerobic training or speed workouts with the tolerance for carbon dioxide training.
If I were you learn to run hard day / easy day with 2 to three hard days per week. Also instead of running consecutively learn to take walk breaks for 60 to 90 seconds every 8 to 16 minutes which allows your heart a rest and will get you in better shape over the long run without over-training. Learn to run at different paces for instance 10 mile pace, 10K, 5K and 1 mile pace. For instance, practice 2 miles X 3 at 10K pace with 90 sec walk breaks; 1 mile X 4 at 5K pace with 90 sec walk breaks or 400 meters X 8 at mile pace with rests to 120 heart beats per minute. Your also find this type of long and short distance intervals will improve your times and make you stronger. The peak and trough effect is the best way to get get your body in shape and perform at maximum training.
