What should I do to lose weight?
Okay, I am 5'8 I weight 160 pounds, I am 14 years old. I have a lot of fat around my lower back (muffin top) I ride horses everyday that is my hobby. I have tried the 1000 calorie diet but that only lasts so long because you can't stick to that diet forever.... I was on it for about two weeks and then broke it. I have a treadclimber I haven't been using it lately though, and I have a leg magic. I am very active with my horses. I have been at this weight for awhile. Please help me I don't know what to do. What do you recommend? I want to get down to 130 pounds. Please help I'll give best answer.
Well I don't think you are that heavy. And, 130 is a pretty slim for someone 5'8". Weight is a simple equation of calories in and calories out. You need to either decrease calorie in, increase your energy output or a combination of both. Keep a log of your diet and exercise plan and don't worry about the weight loss as much as sticking to your plan long term. You will drop the weight if you stick to it.
Here's what's worked for me. Lower the carbs in your diet. No white carbs like sugar, flour, potato, or rice for several weeks and after that you get 1 serving of it a day when you reach your goal. I went on the South Beach diet for several years (there's a long term phase 3) and got very fit with exercise at the same time. There's a book or website and some cool recipes that help you enjoy the food without missing the carbs. You can do the induction phase which is hard and nearly zero carbs and lasts only 2 weeks to see results very quickly.
Plan snacks so you don't get hungry. Mid-morning, mid-afternoon, evening. You should have all of these small snacks every single day between meals so you don't get over hungry and overindulge. 1 oz cheese, handful of nuts, celery and cream cheese, sugar free yogurt smoothie, an ounce of turkey. All these are good healthy snacks. Because of the snacks and the sheer volume of produce you are eating, you just are not hungry on that south beach diet. It's the only diet I've been on where I did not feel hungry or deprived and that's why I was on it for so long.
Run. Take your horses out jogging with you. Sweat at least 30-45 minutes 5 days a week at first and build in a mega 1-2 hour session at least once a week. At first just try to jog one minute and walk one minute. Don't worry if you are jogging or walking, just worry about the sweat factor. It needs to be real physical work and sweating shows that you are accomplishing that. When you need a break you can work on circling type lunge exercises with your horse or just heave and pet him. It's great fun and both you and your horse will be very fit.
