I am obese and 14 years old. I had something VERY embarrassing happen?
I weigh 370 pounds and am a freshman female in high school. In gym class 50% of our grade was to climb a rope to the gym ceiling. We have to wear uniforms, and I wear an XL, but it was still small.
When it was my turn to climb the rope, I got on and tried to climb, I was a foot up and shaking and sweating.
See, I have flabby arms and legs, but my stomach, thighs, and butt are MASSIVE. I have to find special shirts and pants. The gym uniforms had slipped up over my gut and my shorts were sliding off. I reached to fix them and my shorts (which were made of this cheap nylon) RIPPED across the butt. I almost fell, but grabbed the rope hard. It broke, and I don't mean the knot came undone, that thing SNAPPED. I came crashing to the ground, and was fine, but no one will let me live it down, not even the teacher. Everyone in school knows. I feel like a lard, and I know I should lose weight, but I like eating too much. What should I do?
You're obviously an intelligent girl (the fact that your question is well written proves that!) I like eating too, but I've had to make some changes to keep from getting bigger than I am (200 lb.) It's easy to watch TV shows like Biggest Loser and Celebrity Fit Club and wonder at how fast they seem to shed the pounds off, but it's also easy to forget that they're usually training for hours at a time, 7 days a week. That's not going to happen for normal people like us, who are in school or work full time. So start small. If you live close enough to school, try walking it instead of taking the bus or having your parents drive you. Pack a healthy lunch instead of the glop they feed you at school. If there's a nice park near your home, try to go and get out and at least walk around, if not play Frisbee or something like that. Ask your school nurse for advice- I'm sure she would know some good tips for you.
It will take a good while, but I'm sure that you can do this. You'll add years to your life, years that you'll be able to happily spend with a family of your own one day.
