Valeo Power
hello , i have peugeot 1.6 (98) (1.4L) XR model , it loses power on up hills?

my friend has the same car model (96) , and it seems to have more power and acceleration , my friend's car has (valeo) clutch while i had some cheaper one , my question is , does the acceleration and the uphills power of my car could be due to the clutch ??!!! , if yes what clutch is recommended to my car ? thanks.
thanks everybody for the answerers , for (Trevor Trillion) , the car engine is 1.4 liter and i did all the periodic 10,000 km handling a month ago (oils , plugs etc...) the only problem lift , is the not enough acceleration compared with this model , the garage worker claimed the problem to be due to the non original clutch ! , my quistion could it be ??
... and the car is 106-XR , about trying to overtake a car at 60mph , the car do accelerate more ! , but the problem is in going up roads and accelerating from 0 - 60mph , that even my friends car (Dihatsu model-99 1L automatic) had overtaken me !!!

4 bad answers, now a serious answer, from an experienced mechanic on 104,204,205,305,405.

Maybe, 2 fouled spark plugs. or no distributor advance, but....

AFTER YOUR ADDITIONAL REMARKS TO ME: Acceleration is also affected by the engine timing (distributor adjustment) and having all 4 spark plugs clean, working, good plug wires, and a distributor vacuum advance hose that is connected and not leaking.
Are you able to "time your engine" with a stroboscopic light?
Finally, COMPRESSION is important. Did you have your valve clearances adjusted lately? Do you have very high mileage on your engine, and maybe the piston rings are worn, valves are dirty? HEAD GASKET IS LEAKING compression?
These important things will affect your acceleration and top speed.
WHAT IS YOUR GAS MILEAGE? do you keep track of that?

Yes, this very well could be the clutch. Another test to prove it is the clutch PLATE getting too thin is too try to pass (overtake) a car in top gear at 60 mph or more. Do you have ANY acceleration?? No? It is definitely a worn out clutch.
When did you last change the clutch? 60,000 miles? Never?

AHHHH you have a 106, not a 1.6. this is important.

You should buy 3 clutch parts. Clutch spring (very heavy metal) driven plate disc (thin and light) and the "throw out / release bearing". (a round spinning bearing that makes NO NOISE when brand new.)
If you wait too long to change the clutch, you are heating up your flywheel everyday. Your flywheel will get too hot and change to a bluish colour, and the metal will be softer. VERY bad. Don't wait too much longer.

Non-Peugeot clutches are GOOD. Don't believe that "non-original' theory.

Also buy, 2 liters of gearbox oil, and 5 liters of radiator coolant. Both these liquids are drained and lost when you change the clutch.

Brands:
valeo is good. ask 3 shops for 3 prices. Buy the 2nd or 3rd highest. The only problem I have ever had is with CHEAP SPRINGS in the thin disc. They turn sideways suddenly, and your car is jammed in that gear, forever, until clutch is again replaced. This isn't a Peugeot problem, it's a cheap disc problem.

Good luck, add more details if you have more questions for me.

We appreciate you looking at our Valeo Power information.
