Can universal healthcare work in the USA?
Here's why I don't think so:
1) Americans have very unhealthy lifestyles. They eat too much fattening crap and don't exercise enough. They would put a huge burden on the system, which would cause everyone taxes to go up. One reason I think UHC is more successful in Europe and Japan is because they actually know how to lead healthier lives
2) Americans are more money-centric than Europeans and will try to cheat the system. It's a fact don't deny it.
3) Americans aren't very good at running domestic government social programs. Example: Your local DMV. No matter what type of universal healthcare we have, whether government runned or a dual system, there will be inefficiency. Except for the military, the American government can't run things well.
4) People will abuse the system. You see people do it with food stamps all the time. This will lead to a greater burden and higher taxes.
That's all I can think of. Tell me what you think and if you know any more.
I'm not sure it will work or not, he isn't wanting to tell everyone that they have to insured by the government, he is letting those who can't get health care insurance because they are "already sick" the ability to get health care the govt officials get.
I just turned 23 on sunday, I was raised by a single mother as were my 3 siblings, my biological father never paid a dime of his child support. We were on Medicaid until we each turned 19. I am diagnosed with Psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Migraines, Tension Headaches, and Severe Depression and Anxiety. I can not get health insurance because I am "already sick" I have applied to 7 different insurances in my town and state, and I make too much for Medicaid.
I had to pick up a second job just to pay the bills and to get the medicine. I was just recently (last year) diagnosed with a tumor but they can not do surgery because I don't have insurance to pay for it.
Do you know what it is like to be 23 and know you could die at any moment? Do you know how it feels to work two full time jobs back to back with a migraine?
