Can my dumbbells be too light for benefit?
For the past month, I've been doing various dumbbell exercises at home. The problem is, I only have 4 non-adjustable dumbbells, 2 - 7.5 lbs, and 2 12.5 lbs. At the start, my reps were low, but I'm getting to the point where for some of the exercises, I need to do upwards of 100-150 reps (in several sets) to feel completely burnt.
Now, I dont want to spend $100-200 on a decent set of adjustables. Also, I'm aware of the High Weight - Low Reps = Bigger Muscles, and Low Weight - High Rep = Leaner Muscles, but I dont really care about bulking up a large amount. Also, I dont need to save time, and can keep doing the exercises as long as I want until I'm tired.
My main question is, nomatter the number of reps, as long as I'm doing the movements correctly and my muscles burn when I'm done, I'm getting a benefit, right? I'd need a pretty large no to convince me to spend a lot of money on a whole set.
Right. ANY exercise you do will strengthen your muscles, up to a point. The light dumbells will make it easier, but the high reps make up for the discrepancy.
If you're worried that the workout is too easy for you, purchase something like a weighted wrist band. I've seen such bands from 2 to 15 pounds, and usually under twelve bucks.
