I'm just about to start the p90x program.?
I see that I'll need some adjustable dumbbells. I was wondering what max weight I should get. I'm already in good condition, 6'2" and 185, can bench about 220. Do you think 40 lbs each would do? Also, as I travel a lot, I'm going to need some resistance bands (would you recommend heavy or medium?). A third thing will be a pull-up bar. Include a workout mat and I should be done. Any other suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
It depends, how many reps you can do with the 40 lbs. I think a lot of the P90X workouts are high reps. So a weight you can do 10-15 times I guess, but you don't have to strictly follow their reps, depending on if you wanna bulk or get lean.
Resistance bands aren't necessary if you have weight, or wanna change it up once in a while, and would be good for you since you travel a lot. The mediums are 20 and 30 lbs and the heavy ones are 40 and 50 lbs.
For the pull-up bar, I bought the "Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar" for $30 from Target. It works just as well as the one at the P90X site and it's half the price.
As for the mat, I honestly don't think it's really necessary. But it's up to you.
