I have ~$400 to buy a new set of golf clubs, what kind should I buy?
I am 26, 6'2" and score about 100-105. I had an old crappy set and I am looking to upgrade. I don't need a putter or driver, so a set of irons will work, maybe with hybrids instead of 3i and 4i. Any advice or suggestions will help.
you should go for what Golfdigest calls "game improvement" irons. Irons such as Tommy Armour are pretty decent. I would. KZG, and Tour Edge have some amazing irons for the price. Personally if I were you and wanted Brand New irons...I would check the local pro stores. Check on sets of irons that are still Brand new BUT that are a year or two old. Most times proshops will mark down the price on their "New but Old" equipment. Most golfers want the name brand stuff THE year it comes out. For instance I have a 2005 460cc Cleveland Launcher which I bought in 2006. Since it was a brand new driver but a year old they slashed off over 100 bucks. 
Needless to say....I took em up on it. I hope this helps and Good Luck!
ps...you could also try ebay as well.
oh and one more thing...just b/c you're 6' 2" doesn't mean that you need longer clubs. Don't believe me? Find a shorter friend than yourself and standnext to him (side to side)...have him lean over as if he were addressing a ball...now you do the same...and notice where his hands are hanging loose....Odds are...your hands will be in the EXACT same spot. Most golf club companies have a standard length for a reason. Ok...enough of my blabberings...
