Do weighted push-ups (45 lbs on the back) build muscle faster than the bench press does?
I'm 6' 2", 165lbs, and 17 years old.
Me personally, I prefer doing push ups with weights on my back. At this moment, I'm up to 90 lbs. on my back. With a bench press, you're laying down and being supported. When you do push ups with weights on your back, you work out your core muscles (back, abs) because you don't have any support. That said, you have to be sure you keep good form. Don't let your back and abs sag. You'll lose the benefits and risk yourself to serious injury. As far as building muscle, I've been satisfied all the way around. Proper diet and rest is key along with your workout program.
