What are the benefits and drawbacks of wearing ankle, wrist weights?
I would like to wear them while jogging if the benefits pay off. I already have them and I believe the wrist weights are just a pound or 2 and the ankle weights maybe 3 pounds. What do you think of this?
While they do provide a little more resistance, they also increase the chances of strain to those joints...remember, your ankles and wrists can be easily damaged and are not super-strong joints. For some workouts wearing such weights could be beneficial, but I wouldn't consider wearing them while jogging, as you're already putting enough stress on your body with that activity and any extra calorie burn you might get isn't going to be significant...I wouldn't consider it worth the potential injury.
For walking, they aren't a bad idea but even then I wouldn't use them on real long walks...look for some cardio workouts (maybe on DVD/video) that incorporate weights for extra resistance...safely...
