Creatine and a workout schedule?
I am a 16 year old male. I want to gain some weight and muscle by taking creatine. I am 5'8 and 140 lbs. I have a few questions for those who know what they are talking about. I'll give you some info first. The brand of creatine I have contains 5.25 g of creatine per scoop. My max bench is 130 lbs. My max barbell curl is 85 lbs. My max military press is 90 lbs. My max squat is 100 lbs(my knees are very feeble). Based on all this info, what is a good WORKOUT SCHEDULE that'll get me bigger with creatine in about a month? When should I take the creatine? I greatly appreciate those who answer. I need the help. Thank you.
I don't know a lot about creatine. I've tried it in the last year, with results, but I was also working very hard each day. So I don't know if it was the creatine. Someone I know who is in very good physical condition says that creatine is one of the only powders that will actually work. Whey also. Your body will put on lean mass, instead of fat.
A few things I do know:
* Heavy weight, low reps: Get a partner, and have him spot you. Lift enough where you can do the first set on your own. the second set should be tough, with maybe one spot. The third set, you should be pushing yourself. He should have to help you on at least the last few.
* Do not push yourself too far. Follow the above. Don't push so hard that you need help on all reps. If you do, you'll have poor form, and you won't develop properly. In addition, you may hurt yourself.
* Don't work out one muscle group more than two days in a row. Give at least one day for the muscles to build and develop. (You can still be at the gym, working on other muscle groups, if you want to). A four day a week schedule might be two days, one day of rest, two days. A three day would be every other day. I always liked to work out two days, rest two days then work out two days, and take one day off before starting again. That was when I was pushing hard. That gives your muscles time to build. Then, for a maintenance schedule (finals coming up, or a lot of school activities), cut back to three days a a week, every other day.
* If you are very active in other areas, three days a week will be more than enough. Actually, if you're just getting started, it may be best to start with that to ease into it. You will be sore at first as your body adjusts.
* You need to give yourself more than one month to get big. It take time! The only way to quickly get big is steroids. I've never done steroids because I've never thought the side effects--including legal issues--to be worth it. I got in good shape without it, and you can too. But give yourself a realistic time frame.
* Keep track of your progress. Keep a journal with you, and track how many sets, how many reps and weight. Measure your arms, and around your chest. This isn't vanity. It's keeping track of what is working for you and what isn't. Also, if your development starts to plateau, you know it's time to add more weight, eat more (body builders eat tons because they need more energy to build those muscles), or possibly change your routine to negatives or something.
* Do not compare yourself or your progress to other people. Each body is different. I used to work out with a best friend who was much bigger and stronger. He motivated me, and I got in better shape than I would have without him, but it would have been unhealthy for me to try to match him. We changed out weights a lot, and we still each got a good work out in.
* Proper diet. Cut out the soft drinks, sweets, fried foods.
