Questions about tongue piercings- kissing, eating, healing time, etc.?
Heres the deal. I want to get my tongue pierced on monday. The following day I am going on a 9 day long snowboarding trip to colorado with my school. This means that I will have to eat the food that i am given on the trip. I know that soup will be available for dinner, will this be ok for me to eat? The bus journey is also 16 hours long, and am wondering, what food could I bring with me to eat during the trip? Because i will get hungry at one point for sure.
I also have a question about kissing? How long after getting it pierced will i not be able to do (open mouth) kissing!!?
How long will the swelling last and how many days will I have to go without eating solid foods and whatever I want?
And last question, is it possible to get a barbell that is suitable for the use on new piercings but that has clear balls, or whatever, that make it less obvious?
I know, a lot of questions, but answers to just one of them would be of great help! Thank you!
Snowboarding + potential falling and accidents + new piercing = not the smartest idea I've heard of.
I suggest that you wait on the piercing. Sure eating food will be a pain, you won't be able to talk well for days, you'll be sore and swollen. Why would you want to spend most of that trip dealing with the care of a piercing instead of just relaxing and having fun?
Swelling generally lasts 4-14 days, during that time, eating can be difficult but as far as eating solid foods again, that will vary from person to person. Kissing should be avoided until swelling goes down and there is no pain or soreness in your tongue. No, you probably can't get clear balls because they are plastic and will harvest bacteria and increase risk for infection and other complications. If you want it less noticeable, you shouldn't get the piercing. Typically the only foods you want to avoid are spicy foods, foods high is acidity (citrus juice, vinegar) and you will want to avoid foods that can get stuck around the barbell making it hard to eat/swallow (some people complain that spaghetti gets suck on the barbell and makes them gag a little, same goes for melted cheese)
Oh, and make sure you always rinse your mouth after eating, drinking or smoking. Be sure to use an alcohol and saccharin free mouthwash like Biotene. It won't burn like conventional mouthwashes and because of that, swelling will go down faster. You will also want to start brushing twice daily if you don't already.
If you ask me...that's a lot to put up with while on a trip...Just wait. You and your body will be better off and safer.
