Diet, calories, metabolism, weight lifting? EXPERT HELP PLEASE!?
I'm 16 years old. I'm 180 pounds. I don't know my height. I'm just chubby looking. I want to build muscle, have the abs, and stuff like that.
I excercise on a treadmill. I do the 400 calorie workout,
which is about 40 minutes of jogging.
How many calories should I consume each day?And people say that if you eat less than the necessary calories, your metabolism will slow down and that will make it easier to gain the weight back again. So what if I decide to consume 2000 calories a day and then I end up consuming 1000 calories only? Will that really slow my metabolism down? People also say to eat 4-5 small meals a day. What kind of meals? Can a banana (fruits) be considered a small meal (but that's more of a snack)?
Lastly, weight training. I only have a pair of 10 lb dumbells.
I don't have anything for ab workouts. I do sit ups and stuff,
but my back ends up really soar the next day. What can I do?

these are all very good questions. At 16 was when I started as well. I was a little chubby but not really fat. First off it would help to know your height. If you are 180 lbs. you should be about 6' - 6'2" tall unless you are a body builder. I would first keep the 400 calorie jogging. Very Good!
Next with the sore back and sit ups. Do floor crunches on a pad, or carpet if available. And do not do complete sit ups. Lay on your back and put your arms across your chest and just lift off the floor until your back starts to raise up. Don't let your back come up. It does hurt when you do a lot or do it consistently. Go up slow and come down slow and don't bounce. You will definitely feel it in the gut and you won't get as tired from dragging yourself all the way up.
The dumbells are excellent but again go slow. Slow up, slow down. don't use momentum when swinging them. Also vary your routine like arms and shoulders one day and chest and back another day.
as far as eating is concerned it is very important to take a multi daily vitamin and drink plenty of water. Start off with eggs and toast, and small juice, or oatmeal and juice, then snack on an apple, or banana, or piece of toast with peanut butter, then lunch can be a salad with turkey, ham, roast beef, a small scoop of tunafish, and a light dressing, or a sandwich with whole wheat bread is best and a pickle and sliced carrots. Go very easy on the dressings or mayo. Then if your hungry before dinner maybe 5 saltines and 1 oz cheddar cheese, or cottage cheese, or another piece of fruit, and for dinner it's simple. About 6 oz lean protein baked potato with a spoon of sour cream and salsa, or half cup rice, or mashed potato, or 1 cup of spaghetti and sauce, and as many veggies as you wish and a salad. Just no extra butters, or fats. And no fried food or junk food of any kind. And if you hold off on dinner as long as you can then the chances of you snacking late are usually slim. For a bed time snack keep it simple. If you have a sweet tooth have few dark chocolate Hershey nuggets, or a piece of fruit, or 1 bag of chips (small bag) and maybe a glass of low fat milk. Try and drink 8 glasses of water a day and NO SODA. You don't need it. That is the biggest weight gainer in young americans. Find a no calorie soda, or Crystal Light, or something no calorie. If you follow the basics here. you will shed pounds and feel and look better in less then a week. Now this is important. THERE IS NO RUSH to lose the weight. Do it right and take your time and don't over due the exercise. If your body is sore take an aspirin and let it rest. Go for a walk instead. Taking your time and doing it right you WILL get RESULTS.
