according to this article, the tracks set up in alpine skiing were set up by some austrian coach to be at a disadvantage for vonn and an advantage for his austrian skiers . I've read that they have some kind of lottery to choose which nation can set up the course they way they like it. Why in the Hell are coaches allowed to design the coarse in the first place? shouldn't it be done by a unbiased third party? Nobody has any reason to complain because if the U.S coach had won that lottery, they would have set up the coarse to help the U.S skiers or any other nation for that matter, but at the same time how do you allow a coach from a certain nation to have that much control?
Sorry, but that is the way skiing works. At every international event, one of the coaches is selected to set the course for slalom, giant slalom and super G. And yes, all coaches, even those from the US, do tend to set them based on the skills and preferences of their top athletes. However there isn't really a whole lot that can be done to give a clear advantage of certain skiers over others.
Take this complaint with a huge grain of salt. The only one making a stink is Vonn's husband.
