PPE 24/7?...or should I ask for a quantitative risk assessment?
Hello. My employer is slowly moving towards full-body condoms, as far as PPE is concerned.
Kidding. We _are_ moving towards more stringent standards as far as gloves go.
While I can't disclose the exact nature of my industry, I can say that the chance of anyone coming in contact with bloodborne pathogens is slim to none. There is a chance that a human being might poo or pee in the wrong receptacle. However, it's the same chance that an irate chef might, on a bad night, do something unseemly to a plate of food that's returned to the kitchen, for example. Not bloody likely.
Sooo...should I meekly let them encase me in nitrile and rubber, or should I argue for a quantitative risk assessment? If there is crap in our krap, I'd like to know. And if there isn't any crap in our krap, we shouldn't be required to wear gloves 24/7.
Any ideas on how to proceed? First erudite answer wins...

In this day-and-age it seems that everyone over does it in the name of protection. Those that do not have to deal with the precautions are quickest to require them. Justifying it by using phrases such as 'common sense' and 'sensible precautions'.
In the end, it is these bureaucrats creating the procedures, that pay my salary. I may CONSTRUCTIVELY speak my mind, but I like my job, the pay, and my coworkers. I would go along with the unnecessary procedures to protect me from an unlikely contaminate.
