What's the ideal weight range for a female dwarf hamster?
I have a female Campbell's Russian Dwarf Hamster. What is her ideal weight range? (She's an adult). Thanks! (it doesn't matter if it's in grams or oz btw)
an adult campbell's russian dwarf hamster - male or female - should weigh approximately ONE ounce. the average length will be 3-4 inches, and they are fully matured at about two months. in my experience, dwarf hamsters like to graze, so i would allow access to food at all times. however, dwarf varieties are susceptible to being overweight, so you'll want to watch the snacks and fatty nuts/seeds.
i recommend only feeding a pellet diet - they are perfectly made for dwarf hamsters, and deliver exactly what nutrients they need. i would keep some seeds on hand for snacks, or buy a small bag of the 'mash' diet, the bag that has corn, sunflower seeds, and other seeds included. only feed that as a snack. otherwise they'll just pick out the seeds they want, and that's usually the fattier seeds which will lead to the hammie being heavy.
3-5 ounces would probably not even be possible for a dwarf hamster. a full size syrian hamster, which would be 6-8 inches long, would be 4-5 ounces, fyi.
