Whats the worst thing that can happen if I lift weights everday?
I always hear about all this , do sets, and wait 1-2 days between wrokouts , and I just dont like it. I train mma 4 day a week and wieght train 3 days a week. but whats the worst that will happen if I train weights 6 days a week , and do mma 7 days a week?
I am 19 yrs old , so whats the worst that can happen?
wow , i guess I have an ego for wanting to train really hard.
I just lost a BJJ match tonight , and it really frustrated me because this guy just out powered me ,and laid on me for like 30 minutes , and I dont want that happening again.
Wow... so many answers, so little information.
First off you would be overtraining, which essentially means training to a point of detriment.
You will lose energy, strain muscles, become easily injured, immune system would weaken causing you to get sick.
Eventually your body will force you to take the break you need to by simply giving out.
Weight training 6 days a week will actually not help you anymore in strength gains then 3 days a week, in fact it will hurt you.
When you lift weights you cause microtears in muscles, then resting them allows your body to repair those tears making the muscle denser, stronger, and larger. By not taking off the necessary time, you body will not be able to repair those tears, and you will just be tearing it over and over without repair. Meaning eventually you will develop a real muscular tear, or ligament injury (More likely). You will probably quickly develop tendonitis, and essentially will so no noticeable strenght gain.
That is not to say you can't work out with weights 6 days a week by staggering your routine and only doing certain muscle groups. For example:
Day 1: Pecs, Triceps, Lats.
Day 2. Calves, Quads.
Day 3: Back and Biceps,
Day 4: Hamstrings and Glutes
Day 5. Shoulders, Lats, Forearms.
Day 6: Heavy upper and lower abs, lower back,
That gives rest in between working muscle groups, and prevents you from screwing something up.
However keep in mind you are working certain muscle groups with MMA, and doing it 5 days a week is plenty. 7 days a week you can do, but by ensuring that two of those days are light days.
Quite simply your body will need rest, by overtraining you risk peaking in your training cycle (the time when you are the strongest, fastest, and feel the best) long before an actual competetion and coming into the competetion overworked, and wondering why with all of your training you are running out of gas so fast. (Because you overpaced yourself and went beyond your training arc).
Listen to your coaches, they won't lead you astray. At 19 your body is pretty resilient and allows for you to bang a little harder for longer, however keep in mind you still want to do it smart so you get the best gains. You need 2 to 3 days rest between working a muscle group for maximum results.
Also keep in mind diet is a HUGE part of a training routine as well.
Good luck, and losing sucks but it makes you better. Work smart, overtraining will make you more succeptable to injury, make your performance suffer, and will gain no benefit.
You can train 5 to 6 days a week easily, but by staggering and being smart.
