How do I regain my fitness levels to my standards?
I'm currently 22 years old now and 135 lbs. In high school I use to be involved in sports all the time. I was an awesome soccer player, won many rewards for track & field, and was also involved in other physical activities. I always eat healthy foods too.
Im currently in my 4th year of college and I hadn't done any physical sports/activities for over a year & a half. I did go to the gym, do heavy weights, and run from time to time... But I have failed to remain consistent.
I played indoor soccer today for the first time in 2 years. I felt so out shape during the first five minutes of the game that I bcame nauseous and found it very hard to breathe. I then took a break, played another game and twisted my ankle in the process.
So how do I regain my fitness levels so what I once use to be? Do I just casually start running until I tire out?
To get back in the groove of things you have to set times, lengths and intensities of your workouts. Say for instance Monday you wanna push super hard with cardio so do 15 to 20 minutes of something that gets you really tired you can even break it up into intervals (its way more effective than steady cardio). Tuesday you could focus on resistance/weight training and hit all your major muscles groups. Wednesday you can do endurance training so pick a lighter activity and do it for a longer time say 45 min. Thursday you can do toning with lighter weights along with cardio for example 1 minute of jumping jacks followed by 1 minute of weight exercise and alternate for 30 min. Friday through Sunday are your choice of activity and designate one of those days as an active rest day where you dont just sit around all day but are doing light activities, chores etc. As your heart and muscles get stronger, you will have to pick up the intensity accordingly.
