I am beginning to jog everyday now. What's the benefits and negatives of wearing ankle/wrist weights will jog
I just want to know if they will give me a better workout or will wearing them actually hurt me will running. Wrist weights 1.5 lbs each ankle 5 bls each.
the wearing of ankle weights beyond use when stretching is discouraged. by placing an additional "load" in a unnatural location (ankle) there can be an increased risk of stress fractures in the lower leg along with an increased muscle imbalance in the upper thigh. only the quadriceps will benefit from the increased load causing a great imbalance of strength of the quadriceps to hamstring.
for a person that is untrained (new to resistance training) the use of hand weights is also discouraged. I would have at least several months of structured resistance training before adding weights to the arms and would only use them when walking not when running.
